The word of youth. The debate tournament for the Cup of the Library of Elbassy

On 3-4 November, the city debate tournament for the Challenge Cup of the Elbasy Library took place among the secondary specialized educational institutions of the capital.

The debate club “Akikat” at the Library of Elbasy has been functioning since 2011 and initially united only pupils of metropolitan schools. The active work of the club allowed to unite teams of schools, colleges and universities of Astana and take interaction and cooperation with educational institutions of the city to new height.

The debate was held on the British parliamentary format in two stages. The first qualifying stage was held in the building of the Polytechnic College. The competition was attended by 100 people - 16 Kazakh and 8 Russian teams. In the final, which took place in the building of the Museum of the Elbasy Library, 40 people of 8 teams took part. The issues discussed by the participants concerned the main problems of the socio-economic and political development of Kazakhstan’s society: the importance of financial and legal literacy in modern society; termination of state grants for unclaimed specialties; using the experience of Singapore to fight crime; introduction of a digital system in Kazakhstan, etc.

As a result of tough competitions, places in the Kazakh league were distributed as follows:

1st place - “Temir Zhol Tarlandary” (Rauan Yermekov, Daryn Ibrahimov, College of Transport and Communications);

2nd place - “Adlet” (Almas Omіrіlі, Aruzhan Zeken, College of Management and Business);

3rd place - “Bolashak deputy” (Eldos Karzhaubay, Dildar Kozenbay, College of Transport and Communications).

In Russian league:

1st place - “Young hearts” (Eulik Turlybekova, Oleg Dmitriev, Lingva College);

2nd place -“Lokomotiv” (Ksenia Malysheva, Zarina Sarvaeva, College of Transport and Communications);

3rd place - "Lingua" (Sofia Kakhanova, Darina Tashtitova, College Lingva).

At the end of the event, the Deputy Director of the Elbasy Library, Botagoz Kaipova, expressed her gratitude to the leadership of the Polytechnic College represented by Director K.S. Sengaziyev for the assistance and to all participants of the debate tournament for active participation, calling for further improvement of public speaking skills, developing multilingualism, indicated the need to open further the English league.
