On September 30, the award ceremony for the winners of the annual literary readings in social networks "Abai Readings" was held in the Library of Elbasy. The project aimed at popularizing the literary legacy of Abai, the formation of a culture of reading and literary taste among Kazakh youth, has been implemented by the Library of Elbasy since 2017.
The event was opened by the Director of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Bakytzhan Temirbolat:
"Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev always notes that the legacy of Abai is the sacred legacy of the Kazakh people. The Head of State K.K. Tokayev, who agrees with this statement, underlines the importance of Abai's creative work for the upbringing of the nation which will lead Kazakhstan to new heights in the XXI century. Abai Kunanbayev is a unique personality who has left an indelible mark in the history of the Great Steppe. His work vividly reflects the essence of the nation, its way of life, views and philosophy, religion and mentality, imagery of language and strength of spirit. The rich legacy of the brilliant poet is a spiritual treasure of mankind that will never lose its significance throughout the centuries. It is remarkable that from year to year, the ways and forms of popularization of Abai's work change, develop and improve. The talents of young reciters, their acting skills, knowledge of several languages and the skillful use of digital technologies in creating videos are admirable. The task of future generations is to preserve the legacy of Abai through deep understanding and awareness of the wisdom of his works. And our duty is to educate young people's interest and respect for our national culture and literature",- he said.
Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darkhan Mynbai, who took part in the ceremony, congratulated the participants and winners.
"The great Abai said that a flame burns in young hearts. It is gratifying to see this fire in the eyes of the young people present here. This fire is the energy, the power that will help to overcome any difficulties. We can say that today's winners of this contest have honestly fulfilled their duty to our great ancestor. I am very glad that the Library of Elbasy thus contributes to the promotion and popularization of the legacy of Abai and Kazakh culture",- he said.
"Myrzakyp Dulatov said: "As far as we are getting from the day of Abai's death, so much will we draw closer to him spiritually." And indeed, the relevance of the thinker's creativity only increases with time. When our country gained independence, it showed itself to the world through Abai. Let me remind you that thanks to the initiative and perseverance of the First President of Kazakhstan, the 150th anniversary of Abai was celebrated at the international level under the auspices of UNESCO. It was then that a new wave of interest in his work began. Undoubtedly, a person reading Abai, who has always called for learning, work and spirituality, has great potential. Therefore, your victories today are your first steps towards science," Zhandos Aubakir, Director of Abai Academy Research Institute of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, addressed the participants of the contest.
According to the well-known Abai scholar, Professor of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, Doctor of Philology Shakir Ibrayev, the legacy of the great poet and thinker for the social, spiritual and cultural life of the people is becoming more relevant with time.
Within the framework of the event, a book exhibition was prepared from the collections of the Library of Elbasy. It featured 40 publications, including Abai's works, studies of his biography, the work of famous Kazakh Abai scholars, as well as the first translations into foreign languages of the masterpieces of the great poet. During the award ceremony, musical numbers were also performed, and the winners and prize-winners recited Abai's works.
In total, about 4,000 people took part in the Abai readings by the Library of Elbasy over the years.
There were 56 finalists in a contest of this year, 11 of them became winners.
The winner of the Grand Prix was a student of the 8th grade of the school-lyceum №57 named after Mashhur Zhusup, Nur-Sultan city Gulnaz Ensebaeva.
"To be honest, I didn't expect to win the grand prize. I recorded a video for the contest. It is a great honor for me to be highly appreciated by the jury. My love for poetry began to form from the third grade with the poems of Abai Kunanbayev, Mukagali Makatayev, Kadyr Myrzaliev. Today's victory motivates me to reach new heights," the winner of the literary readings shared her impressions.
The first place was won by a student of the Zhambyl secondary school in Aksu, Pavlodar region, Aidana Akhman;
The second place was shared by the leading manager of the Hospital of the Medical Center of the Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arai Zhylkybaeva and a student of the 1st grade of the secondary school No. 13 in Ekibastuz Zhiger Khasen;
The third place was won by a student of the 4th grade of secondary school No. 4 of the Irtysh district, Pavlodar region Roman Kuznetsov, a 2nd-year student of the ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov Ramazan Yerzhigit and 3rd year student of Karaganda Medical University Asem Turmakhan;
In addition, individual nominations became prizes:
Aruzhan Amantayeva, a 2nd-year student of Karaganda Medical University, was awarded in the nomination "The Most Active Participant";
in the nomination "Audience Choice Award" - a student of the 8th grade of the school-lyceum №21 in Aktau Aizere Makhambet;
in the nomination "The most inquisitive participant" - a pupil of the 2nd grade of secondary school No. 47 in Aktobe Temirlan Konakbaev;
in the nomination "The propagandist of Abai's legacy at the world level" - 1st-year student of ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov Medina Beisen.
Winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas and prizes.
