An online lesson dedicated to Independence Day was held at the Library of Elbassy. The lesson on "Tenge is a symbol of Kazakhstan's independence" was attended by students of No. 78 school-gymnasium of Nur-Sultan. Students learned interesting facts from the history of the introduction and formation of the national currency. The children were particularly interested in archival documents and photographs of the first banknotes of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For any state, its own currency is not only an economic category but also a symbolic "minted sovereignty." The First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev recalls the history of the name of the national currency in his book "Era of Independence" as follows: It was suggested to name them "som", "aksha" or "tenge". I personally liked the name "Altyn". In the end, we settled on the "tenge", which was taken from the history of the middle ages, when coins called "Tanga" circulated on the territory of the Kipchak steppes. In addition, the words "dengi" and "tenge" sound alike and have a common origin."
In the course of the online lesson, library researcher Gulmira Atabayeva showed students unique documents and photos. Each frame is the history of the formation of tenge: the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan of November 12, 1993 "On the introduction of the national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan"; the opening of the first securities production workshop in the history of sovereign Kazakhstan with the participation of the First President of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, June 2, 1993; a picture from the grand opening of the Banknote Factory of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty on April 26, 1995, with the participation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev and the President of the company "Thomas De La Rue" J. Marshall.
At present, the national currency of Kazakhstan is produced at the Banknote Factory of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in modern production, which allows the tenge to take a worthy place in the banknote series of the world. The ten thousand tenge banknote of Kazakhstan won the Grand Prix of the professional design competition in Bangkok as part of the annual currency conference "Currency Conference 2007". And the five thousand anniversary bill, according to experts, "sets the world standard in the system of money protection."
The history of tenge is an important part of the history of Kazakhstan. On November 12, 1993, in his address to the people on the introduction of the national currency, Elbassy said: "From this moment, a new and crucial stage in the establishment and development of a truly independent state of Kazakhstan begins. Such events occur only once in the history of each country."
At the end of the online lesson, students shared their impressions of the lesson and thanked the lecturer.
