TENGE IS THE ECONOMIC BASIS OF INDEPENDENCE

On the eve of the National Currency Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Library of Elbassy held a lecture "Tenge is a symbol of our independence" for students of the Nur-Sultan Humanitarian College.

The lecture was delivered by the leading expert of the Publishing and Editorial Service, PhD Lilia Flerko.

For the most important anniversary events of 2020, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued collectors’ coins of various themes.  Among them collectors' coin "75 years of Victory" (to the 75th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic war 1941-1945), "Abai. 175 jil" from the series "Outstanding events and persons" (to the 175th anniversary of Abai), "Qazaqstan Konstitysiasyna 25 jyl" (the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan), "Qazaqstan halqy assambleiasy" (the 25th anniversary of Assembly of People of Kazakhstan).

The participants of the lecture made an overview of the history of currency circulation and appearances in the territory of the Great Steppe up to the present day when the national currency of independent Kazakhstan - the tenge - was being developed and introduced.

In the "Word about tenge" Dukenbay Doszhan notes that the word "tenge "is a modified Turkish "tanga" or "danga". Some historians believe that the word "danga" comes from the verb form "dangyr". In ancient times, market traders carried all their money (iron and copper coins) in a bucket. They rolled and dinged. Thus from the verb "dangyr" – rattle – the word "danga" came about.
An independent state should have its own currency. And the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy N. Nazarbayev well knew this from the very beginning: "The introduction of the tenge in November 1993 was one of the most important events in the annals of our young independent Republic. This was a historic step towards filling the country's sovereignty with real content, a necessary condition for carrying out fundamental socio-economic reforms."
Tenge plays an important role in the history of our country not only as an economic basis for independence. The national currency of tenge is a full part of the history of independent Kazakhstan, a sign of its time.
On November 13, students of the Higher Trade and Economic College of Kazpotrebsoyuz will attend the lecture "Tenge is a symbol of our independence", and on November 17 – students of the capital school-gymnasium No. 87.
