NEW CHALLENGES AND APPROACHES TO REGIONAL AND GLOBAL SECURITY IN CENTRAL ASIA WERE DISCUSSED BY EXPERTS IN ASTANA

On October 26 this year, analysts of the Elbasy Library took part in the regional conference "New challenges and approaches to regional and global security in Central Asia".

The discussion was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Central Asia, the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations (KACFR), the Institute of diplomacy of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Kazakhstan and the “Public opinion” Research Institute.

The event was attended by the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, Ambassador Gyorgy Sabo, Chairman of KACFR and JSC "RTRK      "Kazakhstan", political expert Erlan Karin, regional Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Henriette Kiefer, Director of the Institute of diplomacy Marian Abisheva. Director of the Institute of Asian Studies Sultan Akimbekov, political expert Konstantin Syroezhkin, head of the Internet Association of Kazakhstan Shavkat Sabirov, Director of the Central Asian Institute for strategic Studies Anna Gusarova, Secretary General of the SCO (2010-2012), Minister of foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (1991-1992 and 1997-2002) Muratbek Imanaliev, Director of the center for research initiatives "Ma'no" Bakhtiyor Ergashev, expert on Afghanistan Alexander Knyazev and others have addressed a meeting as domestic and foreign experts.

The experts made reports at the sessions "Institutional dimension: how to strengthen the cooperation of regional security organizations in Central Asia", "Radicalization of youth: how to stop it here and now", "Countering the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes", "Return of foreign fighters: opportunities for integration".

Senior research officer of the international research projects department of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Osman Dosov made a report "Private military companies, mercenarism, foreign fighters of international terrorist organizations: differentiation, risks and consequences". The relevance of the report aroused interest and positive response of the participants, experts discussed some aspects of the report and made recommendations for further study of the problem.
