The participants in this battle were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The steadfastness of Panfilov's men became an example for other fighters of those times. For the heroism shown and the fulfillment of the combat missions of the command on July 21, 1942, V.G. Klochkov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

During the fighting, the German General R. Ruof reported to Field Marshal F. von Bock, "The 316th division ... has many well-trained soldiers in its composition, and leads an amazingly stubborn defense." In a historically significant battle, the soldiers showed their courage, which for others became an example of incredible courage.
