MANGILIK EL ALYPTARY. TALGAT MUSABAYEV

In 2021, humanity will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first human flight into space – on April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin went down in world history by flying into outer space. The famous Kazakhstan space pilot Talgat Musabayev celebrates his 70th anniversary in this landmark year,he is  People's Hero of Kazakhstan, Hero of Russia, Lieutenant-General of Aviation, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Talgat Amangeldievich was born on January 7, 1951, in the village of Kargaly, Dzhambul district, Almaty region. In 1974, he graduated from the Riga Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers with a degree in Technical Operation of Aviation Radio Equipment.

While studying at the aeroclub DOSAAF in Almaty (1984), he became the first Kazakh, master of sports of the USSR in aerobatic flight, and received a certificate of a civil aviation pilot (1986). Later he completed his studies at the Ulyanovsk training center for flight, dispatch and engineering personnel of civil aviation of the CMEA member countries (1989) and the Aktobe Higher Civil Aviation School, where he received a pilot engineer diploma (1993).

T. Musabayev worked in civil aviation in engineering, flight and command positions. From 1991-1993, he completed full training as part of a group of cosmonauts under the program of the Mir orbital complex and was a backup cosmonaut-researcher of the Soyuz TM-13 spacecraft.

On July 1, 1994, Talgat Musabayev flew into space as the first Kazakh of independent Kazakhstan. Talgat Amangeldievich passed a tough selection among 2500 applicants and became one of 5 pilots. In total, he has been in space three times, twice as a commander. He holds one of the world records for being in outer space – 41 hours and 18 minutes for 7 spacewalks. The total duration of his flights - 341 days, 9 hours, 48 minutes and 41 seconds - is among the world top ten. For the first time, Talgat Musabayev took the flag, the coat of arms, the constitution of Kazakhstan, a handful of soil, and the holy book of all Muslims – the Koran - into outer space. 

From 1990 to 2003, T. Musabaev worked at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, and from 2003-2005 he was the Head of combat training of the Army Aviation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. From 2005-2007, he was the General Director of the Joint Kazakhstan-Russian Enterprise Baiterek JSC for the creation of the Baiterek space rocket complex at the Baikonur cosmodrome.

In 2007, Talgat Musabayev became the head of the National Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan and joined the Nur Otan party. From 2014 to 2016, he was appointed Chairman of the Aerospace Committee of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From January 2016 to July 2017, he was Adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and from July 13, 2017, he was appointed Deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During his service, Talgat Musabayev went through all the stages of his military career from the Lieutenant-Engineer of the reserve to Lieutenant- General of the aviation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is the 79th cosmonaut of the USSR/Russia and the 309th cosmonaut of the world. For his contribution to the development of aviation and cosmonautics, Talgat Musabayev has many state and international awards. A documentary film "Nomad of the Universe" was made about cosmonaut T. Musabayev, which tells about the earth and space path of the pilot-cosmonaut.

The exposition of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy features exhibits given by T. Musabayev: a glove of an astronaut, a capsule of the Kazakhstan soil and the Koran, which were space. The archive of the Library of Elbasy houses unique materials of meetings of the First President of Kazakhstan N. A. Nazarbayev with cosmonauts, documents and photos. In addition, the video archive of the Library of Elbasy contains unique video footage of the meetings of N. A. Nazarbayev with cosmonauts - T. A. Musabayev, Yu. I. Malenchenko, U. Merbold, as well as the ceremony of awarding the First President of Kazakhstan N. A. Nazarbayev the "Banner of Peace", which was in space, and much more.
