MÁŃGILIK EL ALYPTARY. TO MARK THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF KENES DUISEKEEV

The honorary title of composer can only be given by the people when they recognize and love his works. This is what the famous Kazakh composer, Honored Worker of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kenes Duisekeev, who unfortunately passed away untimely in July 2020, said. The works of an outstanding artist who would have been 75 years old on 10 February this year will remain in the memory of the people forever.

Kenes Duisekeev was born in 1946 in the village of Pirimov, Kazalinsky district, Kyzylorda region. The boy grew up listening to the folk songs of his mother Tynym, who was very fond of music. The composer himself recalled that as a child he could listen to famous zhyrau Sokyr Eszhan for hours and even imitate him. Assessing the child's musical abilities, his father Duiseke ordered a dombra for his 4-year-old son.

Kenes Duisekeev composed his first kyuis already at school. Having listened to them, a legendary composer, conductor, people's artist of the Kazakh SSR, academician Akhmet Zhubanov told the guy to enter a music school, which took place in 1964. 

By the time he graduated from P. Tchaikovsky Almaty music school, Kenes Duisekeev, as an aspiring composer, created a cycle of piano pieces "Childhood", several separate piano pieces. The diploma with honours of the school became a way to the Almaty State Conservatory named after Kurmangazy.

During this period he wrote pieces for piano "Caravan", "Toccata", pieces for violin, bassoon, cycle "Variations for Piano" and Concerto for trumpet and orchestra. The diploma work was the Concerto for a symphony orchestra.

Since 1974, K. Duisekeev worked as the chief conductor and musical director of the Republican youth and pop ensemble "Gulder". From 1976 to 1979, he was the head of the touring and concert association "Kazakhconcert". In 1975, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the musical programs of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting of the Kazakh SSR., There are popular programs of that period in the memory of many generations: "Tamasha", "Halyq – talant qaınary", "Mýzyka álemіnde", "Shabyt", "Jastarǵa arnalǵan mýzykalyq keshter" and many others. In 1977, K. Duisekeev joined the Union of Composers of the USSR.

One of the brightest and most important events in the life of the composer, according to his own memories, was the period of work as the artistic director and chief conductor of the Pop Symphony Orchestra of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting of Kazakhstan. He was appointed to this position in 1984.

In 1997, the composer was appointed the head of the "Kazakhconcert", and in 2011 K. Duisekeev was invited to the Kazakh National University of Arts at the Department of Composition.

Kenes Duisekeev's legacy includes symphonies, romances, musicals, operettas, rhapsodies, compositions for chamber orchestra and many other works that have won the hearts of listeners all over the world. The maestro became the author of the music to many films, cartoons, television and theatrical performances.

When you hear his name, you immediately recall the sounds of the famous works of the composer: "Tolgau" (symphony); "Akku Zhibek" and "Madi" (musicals); "Aldar Kose" (operetta); "Zhalantos Batyr" (poem-picture for symphony orchestra); the cycle "Seasons" (romances).

The music of the talented composer continues to sound on television and at various concert venues around the world, the author's compositions have become the hallmarks of many famous Kazakhstani performers. Kenes Duisekeev, in collaboration with another talented person — poet and songwriter Shomishbay Sariev, created a collection of songs "Salem sagan, tugan el".

For outstanding achievements and contribution to the development of Kazakh art, Kenes Duisekeev was the recipient of many awards and honorary titles. Since 2017, the composer was the chairman of the jury of the International Competition "Innermost Strings of the Soul...", initiated by the Library of  Elbasy. For the participants of this competition, musically gifted schoolchildren, the instructions of the legendary composer became a valuable and unforgettable experience.
