«MÁŃGILIK EL ALYPTARY». KASYM KAYSENOV

Today marks the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the famous Kazakh writer, famous partisan Kasym Kaysenov. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a member of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, the holder of the title "Halyq qaһarmany" Kasym Kaysenov went down in history as a military strategist who caused great damage to the troops of the Nazis in combat operations, and as a talented writer, one of the first to reveal the theme of partisan war in Kazakh literature.

Kasym Kaysenov was born on April 23, 1918, in the village of Asu-Bulak, Ulan District, East Kazakhstan Region. In 1934, he entered the political and educational college in Ust-Kamenogorsk. After graduating from it in 1939, he studied at a military intelligence school near Moscow. In November 1941, K. Kaysenov was sent to the headquarters of the South-Western Front. On a special assignment, he was transferred to the occupied Ukrainian territory, where Kasym Kaysenov led the third detachment of the V. I. Chapaev partisan unit.  

"They called me Kasym, but I was Vasya at the front..." - Kasym Kaysenov told. Kasym Aga showed his talent as a military leader, strategist, and intelligence officer in the battles on the territory of Moldova and the Transcarpathian part of Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, and Romania.

In Ukraine, K. Kaysenov organized partisan detachments and simultaneously engaged in sabotage work. On March 1, 1943, he joined the sixth detachment of the Transcarpathian partisan unit, and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and then commander of the unit.

On July 21, 1944, he landed with a detachment in the Carpathians, participated in the organization of the partisan movement in Czechoslovakia. On the basis of his group, he formed a partisan detachment of 60 local residents. In battles and sabotage, he destroyed 7 wagon carts, 3 steam locomotives, 6 wagons, 1 anti-aircraft gun, 65 soldiers, personally destroyed 11 enemy soldiers. On December 15, 1944, lieutenant Kaysenov was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree. As a unit commander, he participated in more than a hundred combat operations and diversions.  

In 1945, Kasym Kaysenov returned home. He worked in the office of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, then Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committees of the Juvalinsky and Sverdlovsk districts of the Zhambyl region. For a long time, he was editor, deputy editor of publishing houses "Zhazushy" and "Kainar."

K. Kaisenov began his literary path in 1954 with the release of his first book "Young Partisans." In his works, the writer masterfully revealed the heroic and patriotic theme, sang the exploits of ordinary soldiers who heroically defended their homeland. K. Kaysenov’s books such as "Ilko Vetryak", "Pereyaslavsky partisans", "From the jaws of the death", "A boy behind enemy lines", "On the Dnieper", "Behind enemy lines" and others were widely known.

Among Kasym Kaisenov’s awards are also two orders of the Patriotic War I and II degree, "Partisan of Czechoslovakia", two medals "Partisan of the Patriotic War" I degree, as well as fifteen other medals of the USSR, three times he was awarded the Diploma of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, the Diploma of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR, the Order of Merit, II and III degrees.

On May 9, 1995, by decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev, Kasym Kaysenov was awarded the title "Halyq qaһarmany" - the highest award of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, he was the owner of the Order "Otan", the award of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan named after B. Momyshuly, the title of the winner of the international prize named after A. Fadeev.

Kasym Kaysenov passed away on December 30, 2006. In his telegram of condolences, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted: "Kasym-Aga was a real batyr in all his essence, and this was felt in all his deeds and actions. Having enthusiastically welcomed the Independence of our country, he was always happy with all our achievements and expressed his authoritative opinion with frankness. More than one generation of Kazakhstanis has grown up on the beautiful books of Kasym Kaysenov, based on the truth of life. Undoubtedly, they contributed to their upbringing in the spirit of patriotism and courage. These works will remain a valuable heritage of the people."

The personal archive of Elbassy contains photos of meetings between the writer Kasym Kaysenov and the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Library of Elbassy presents many works of the writer K. Kaysenov, stories for children, as well as publications with his memories of the war and the front-line soldiers.

In memory of Kasym Kaisenov, his children, relatives and friends created an Internet project "Kasym Kaisenov". This page of memory appeared thanks to the veteran's wife – Asyl Kaysenova, who died on January 25, 2020, in Almaty. She was 99 years old. On the website "Kasym Kaysenov" you can find stories, essays, poems, articles and notes of the writer – a unique legacy of the legendary partisan, national hero, great son of the Kazakh people Kasym Kaysenov.
