To the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev,
To the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War
To the 80th anniversary of the poem "Leningraders, my children!"

Today, in the park of Zhambyl Zhabayev in Nur-Sultan, the literary review "Zhyr alyby - Zhambyl" was held as part of the project of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy "Cultural Code of Independence".
The literary review is one of the events dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev. June 22 has many meanings in the life of akyn, in the history of the people. First of all, it is a day of memory and sorrow - 80 years ago, in 1941, the bloodiest war in the history of mankind began.
The siege of Leningrad became one of the most tragic pages of that war. 80 years ago, in support of the residents and defenders of the city on the Neva, the great Kazakh akyn Zh. Zhabayev wrote a poem "Leningraders, my children!". The same date - June 22, but already in the victorious year of 1945 - became a day of great sorrow for all the people - Zhambyl Zhabayev passed away at the age of 99, having witnessed two centuries.

The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N. A. Nazarbayev said: "Zhambyl can be called without exaggeration the steppe Homer of the twentieth century. His majestic figure, organically connecting the distant past with the present, will forever remain one of the highest peaks of Kazakh literature".
On February 22, 2021, the Head of State K. K. Tokayev issued a special decree "On the establishment of the State Commission for the preparation and holding of the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev" to ensure a high organizational and informative level of the anniversary events. The official launch of the akyn anniversary celebration was on February 26 in Nur-Sultan.

"It is deeply symbolic that the glorious anniversary of the great Kazakh akyn Zhambyl Zhabayev coincided with the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence. In the distant 90s, when our young state was just taking its first steps, the 150th anniversary of akyn became one of the most precious and significant signs of the newly found freedom... Zhambyl's works are still relevant today and have been translated into more than 50 foreign languages. The name of Zhambyl Zhabayev is inscribed in letters of gold in the history of world literature, and his work is a national treasure that we must preserve and pass on to future generations. And our meeting today will make a worthy contribution to the preservation of the spiritual and cultural legacy of the great son of the Kazakh people Zhambyl Zhabayev", said Director of the Library of Elbasy Bakytzhan Temirbolat, opening the solemn event.

"The name of the legendary Kazakh akyn, zhyrshy, an outstanding master of oral folk art, who wrote poetry with his heart and soul - Zhambyl Zhabayev - is especially valuable for our capital. The monument to the great poet was opened in Nur-Sultan on July 1, 2008. Today, this statue is one of the main attractions of the capital. The school-gymnasium No. 4 and one of the streets of the capital bear his name. Zhambyl's legacy is a pearl in the treasury of 20th-century literature", said Yermek Kizatov, Deputy Mayor of Nur-Sultan.

"As a true national poet, Zhambyl, who lost his sons in the war, despite the personal tragedy, was together with the people on hard days, supported the fighting spirit of the fighters with his creativity, inspired them to feats. The honorable aksakal wove the names of his children into poetic lines, thus healing his own pain and the pain of the people. The creative legacy of Zhambyl, which has witnessed two centuries, is the spiritual wealth of our people, the great value of our culture", member of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerkozha Tlepberdiev shared his opinion.
In the course of the event, immortal poems and songs of Zhambyl were performed, war veterans and homefront workers, writers and poets of Kazakhstan addressed the participants of the event.
Among them, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, 101-year-old Abdurakhman Safarov, shared his front-line memories.
The event was supplemented by a video about the Zhambyl Zhabayev Literary and Memorial Museum in the Almaty region, as well as video materials from the archives of the Library of Elbasy, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
