The annual literary relay "Abai readings" has ended. The 2020 literary relay was dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, composer, educator and thinker Abai Kunanbaev.
The project "Abai readings", aimed at popularizing the literary legacy of Abai, the formation of a culture of reading and literary taste among Kazakh youth, has been implemented by the Library of the Elbassy since 2017.
According to the Director of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov, the philosophical and poetic legacy of Abai plays an important role in the activities of the Library of Elbassy. In addition to the annual literary relay "Abai readings", exhibitions dedicated to the poet's work and works about him are organized annually for the birthday of Abai Kunanbayev. The philosophy of the great Kazakh thinker is certainly heard during educational lectures and training seminars of the Library of the Elbassy. In 2016, employees of the library's archive service visited the village of Zhidebay in the East Kazakhstan region, visited the Regional Museum of local history, the documentation center and the universal library named after Abai in Semey. During this research expedition, the Library's museum and archive collections were replenished. Also, the Library of Elbassy provides readers with the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of Abai, works about the poet and his legacy in electronic format.
Every year, the number of participants in the literary relay, representing different regions of the country, increases. The participation in the award ceremony of famous Abaeologists, prominent state and public figures, honored workers of science and culture emphasize the importance of this event.
During the competition - from May 14 to August 20, 2020 - 454 posts were published on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtags #ElbasyKitapkhanasyAbai#AbaidyOgimyz175#LibraryElbasyAbai#readAbai175, 332 of them in Kazakh, 122 - in Russian. "The philosophy and wisdom of Abai is the philosophy of the Kazakh people. The spiritual legacy of the poet opens up new facets every year and never loses its relevance because it reveals the moral foundations of human development. "Abai readings" is our tribute to the great Kazakh thinker. The main goal of the "Abai readings" - popularization of Abai's legacy - has been achieved. Every year the number of participants increases and people of different ages from different parts of the country participate in the literary relay. Abai is the spirit of the Kazakh people. And when a four-year-old child reads his heartfelt poems, the soul is filled with pride and joy for the younger generation. Every year, we award the most distinguished participants of the readings, but I want to emphasize that there are no winners or losers in this project. The mission of "Abai readings" is to preserve and increase the rich creativity of Abai Kunanbayev. Therefore, each participant of the literary relay can consider himself a part of this great cause," A. Rakhimzhanov said.
