10 years ago, on August 29, 2010, the world celebrated for the first time the International Day against Nuclear Tests, which was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. It calls for raising awareness "of the consequences of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions and the need to stop them as a means to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world". This resolution was initiated by Kazakhstan in honor of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site on August 29, 1991. Since the establishment of the International Day against Nuclear Tests in May 2010, all states parties to the Treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons have committed themselves to "achieve peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons".
