175 years ago, the great Kazakh poet, philosopher, educator, and founder of Kazakh literature Abai Kunanbayev was born. The legacy of Abai is a spiritual wealth that absorbed all the wisdom of our people over the centuries. His works are immortal, over time they become more relevant and determine the guidelines for social and cultural and spiritual life.
Abai's creativity should be in the mind of every citizen of Kazakhstan. For this purpose, the Library of Elbassy annually initiates "Abai readings". This project is aimed at forming the literary taste of the younger generation, a deep study of the legacy of the great Kazakh figure. Every year, the number of participants from all over the country is growing. Readers demonstrate not only the skill of recitation, but also a decent knowledge of Abai's works, trying to present less known, but no less profound poems of the poet.
"Abai readings" of the Library of Elbassy is also a platform for exchanging views of young people with famous Abai scholars on relevant topics in his creative work. Competent experts, scientists, public figures annually participate in the awarding ceremony of the project winners.
For the anniversary of the great Kazakh thinker, the Library of Elbassy presents a new project "Abai-175", which is one of the facets of the implementation of the policy article of the First President of Kazakhstan –Elbassy "Rukhani zhangyru". The goal of the initiative is to increase readership of Kazakhstanis, especially among young people, and expand the horizons of the younger generation.
In his book "Word of Abai", Nursultan Nazarbayev said: "We, frankly, should not look for justification for our good beginnings somewhere outside. We find everything in his works. We also find answers to the burning problems of our current foreign and domestic policy. His will - "Love, my brother, all mankind" is based not just on the diplomacy of coexistence, but on the fundamental principle of universal unity and brotherhood."
"Word of Abai" is a report of the First President N. Nazarbayev, which he delivered at the event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev, held under the auspices of UNESCO in 1995. The book is published in Russian, Kazakh and English. Based on the report, the Xinjiang Publishing House issued a book in Chinese, Uyghur, and Kazakh (based on the Arabic alphabet) languages.
In his book, the First President emphasizes the common thread between the themes in Abai's work and current issues of our time. "The words of Abai are a talisman for Kazakhs. The legacy of Abai is the most sacred treasure for the Kazakhs," - said Elbassy. Today, this and many other works dedicated to the work of the great Abai are stored in the collection of the Library of the Elbassy.
A special place in the personal library of Elbassy is occupied by books that were presented to the First President by authors and have gift inscriptions. The book "Abai. The severity of the flight" by Nikolai Anastasyev from the series "Life of remarkable people" is signed by the author: "to Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev - a politician, a humanist philosopher, a man who carries the heavy burden of power with dignity through life".
The book "The path of Abai" by Mukhtar Auezov, translated into Russian, was presented to President N. Nazarbayev by the author of the translation – Anatoly Kim, as evidenced by the signature.
The collection of books of the Library of Elbassy related to the name of Abai is complemented by the collection "Qalyń elіm kazaǵym", presented as a gift by the head of the editorial office of the publishing house "Álem ádebıetі" Bek Elubayev. The publication contains poems, translations, "Words of edification" by Abai Kunanbayev.
In the inscription in the book "Abaı: Qara sózder", the editor-in-chief of the publication Zhumagali Ysmagulov writes "Dear Mr. President! Beloved son of the people Nursultan Abishevich! As a sign of respect and best wishes to You."
