The next part of the information project «History of the country in the exhibits and archival documents of the Elbassy library», dedicated to the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council, presents the exhibits related with the participation of our country in the activities of this world-renowned organization for maintaining and strengthening peace.
In the Elbassy library’s collection of souvenir items and numismatics there are a number of exhibits made for the 50th anniversary of the UN:
Souvenir box with an inscription «50-th Anniversary United Nations». It was resented by the Japanese delegation at the exhibition «Kazakhstan-95» in the USA in November 1995.
«50 years of the UN» (bloc) stamps with the emblem of this organization were published by the printing house «Bundesdruckerei» in Berlin in 1995
«20 tenge» сommemorative coin for the 50th anniversary of the UN.
Also the UNHCR badge (UNHCR) is included to the collection in this year. United Nations Agency for Refugees in Central Asia.
At present the UNHCR (the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) is one of the major humanitarian organizations in the world, providing assistance to more than 24 million people. The UNHCR office which combines functions of Regional representative for Central Asia is located in Almaty. The Office on communications with Government is located in Astana.
On June 4, 2013 UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres met with the Head of our state in Astana. The main fields of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UNHCR Office, as well as the issues on protection of refugees’ rights in Kazakhstan were discussed at the meeting. «Regulation of migration issues is important for Kazakhstan. Over the past years, more than 15,000 refugees have found asylum in Kazakhstan. We are grateful to the Office of High Commissioner for Refugees for its high appreciation of the Government’ efforts in this filed. The activities in this area remain vital due to growing worldwide migration and increasing number of refugees», – noted Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The parties also discussed the ways of implementation of proposals on effective regulation of migration processes, including within the framework of the «Almaty process» initiated by Kazakhstan. These measures will help make our country a model of migration policy in Central Asian region.
The swiss wristwatch with the emblem and abbreviation «UNHCR» the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres presented to the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, in memory of the meeting.
In 2012 the United Nations conducted the study «E-government for people». The study was conducted in the context of the many challenges of an open, flexible and well-functioning government. In the rating «E-government for people» the Republic of Kazakhstan took the second place and won an honorable award.
