HISTORICAL EVENT: THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF KAZAKHSTAN IN THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL IS STARTED

From January 1st to 31st, 2018 Kazakhstan will moderate in the United Nations Security Council for the first time in history.

A lot of work was done to agree with the members of the Council issues of interest to Kazakhstan before the beginning of the chairmanship. These were the issues of the promotion of the resolution on Central Asia and Afghanistan and the issues of countering terrorism.

The deputy director of the Elbassy library, candidate of historical sciences Kulyaysha Aktaeva noted the importance of this historical event:

– Kazakhstan not only in its national state history, but also in the history of the countries of Central Asia, begins to fulfill an important duty – the chairmanship in the UN Security Council. The permanent chairman of Kazakhstan under the UN Kairat Umarov will open and conduct Security Council meetings and sign official reports of the Council. It is expected that the Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev will personally open the main events. For example, the thematic debates of high-level members of the UN Security Council are planned on January 18, in which the President of Kazakhstan will take part. I think that this event should be viewed from perspective of historical significance. As you know, the structure of the United Nations, its powers and principles of activity, are hard-won by the blood of many millions of people. Not coincidentally, five states are permanent members of the UN Security Council, which have the veto power as winners in the Second World War. However, the experience of the past XX-XXI centuries has shown that new states appeared with a new idea, the concept of a safe world. Kazakhstan came to the chairmanship not just for honorable missions, for the consistent promotion of a stable peace based on the idea of nuclear safety. Our country has made a great contribution to the world security system, along with major world powers. Nursultan Nazarbayev is the initiator of many modern theories of global security. As chairman of the Security Council before Kazakhstan will be raised issues of the implementation of resolutions on Central Asia and Afghanistan. These are the most topical issues. Kazakhstan's accession to the UN Security Council is a historical event which shows how much of a geopolitical resource of a new format has been formed in the Central Asian region, where our country is the leader and the transponder of new ideas.

– The Elbassy library as a unique institution are collected the most important historical artifacts on the history of Kazakhstan's independence, the ideas and initiatives of the Head of State in all directions, illustrates our moderate in the UN Security Council. In 2017 at the Museum of the Library was opened the exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan's accession to the UN. The selection of archival, book and museum item materials was made, which reflected this event. Youth movement «Model UN» became the basis for volunteer movement in the Elbassy library. «Model UN» came out among those educational programs and youth projects that are characteristic of our Library. The conferences and round tables took place, collections of scientific works were prepared as part of the implementation of the scientific program. The activity of the Analytical center of our Library is aimed to broadcasting and development ideas and real results which the geopolitical concept of Kazakhstan has reached in the modern world among of authoritative expert community. Almost every direction of the Library's activity is related with the promotion of the global serious historical initiative of Kazakhstan to participation in activities of the UN Security Council, – summarized Kulyaysha Kabdualievna.

– Since January 2017 Kazakhstan is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The chairmanship in the Security Council begins on January 1st, 2018.
