THE EXHIBITION «COLORS OF KOREA: YESTERDAY AND TODAY» OPENED IN THE LIBRARY OF ELBASY

On March 16, the opening of the exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" took place in the Museum of the Library of Elbasy on the right bank of the capital.

- The Library of Elbasy continues to acquaint Kazakhstanis with the culture and art of foreign countries, and today the exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" is presented to your attention. In recent years, together with the Korean Cultural Center, many interesting projects have been implemented. Opening the next joint exhibition, it is pleasant to realize that we are contributing to the strengthening of friendship between our peoples. Thanks to such projects, residents and guests of the capital have the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich culture and historical heritage of the Republic of Korea. The exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" introduces us to traditional Korean life. In the costumes and utensils made of ceramics and wood presented today, we can see the customs of the national color palette carefully preserved by the Korean people and passed down from generation to generation",  said Bakytzhan Temirbolat, Director of the Library of Elbasy, opening the exhibition.

The exhibition is organized within the framework of the international exhibition project of the Library "Dialogue through Culture" in cooperation with the Korean Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Kazakhstan with the assistance of the Sookmyung Women's University Museum, as well as the project of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange "Traveling Korean Art 2021".

– I would like to express my gratitude to all the guests for taking the time to visit the exhibition that opened today. In addition, I would like to thank the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy for their active assistance in organizing this event. I hope that the exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" will have a special meaning for us and will bring a little comfort to the heart tired of the pandemic. It will be a great opportunity to get acquainted with a variety of clothing, traditional jewelry and crafts that reflect the unique colors of Korea. I hope that this year of celebrating the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence will be of particular importance for the expansion of cultural exchange between our countries, so that the citizens of Kazakhstan and Korea can get to know each other better. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Сultural Сenter plan to continue holding interesting and informative events", said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Kazakhstan Mr. Koo Hong-seok.

The event was attended by foreign ambassadors, deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, heads of educational institutions and cultural institutions, research and national cultural centers.

 

The exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" features exhibits that are artefacts and reproductions of traditional Korean costumes, as well as modern works by Korean authors, graduates of Sookmyung Women's University, who presented Korean traditional household items. The exhibits are made on the basis of the concept of "five colors – five main directions", demonstrating the harmony of the traditional and modern color palette of Korea. Traditional Korean colors, each of which has its own purpose and meaning, reflect the way of life of the Korean people in ancient times, and modern author's works represent various materials and techniques of working with textiles, leather and ceramics.

 

You can use audio guides that allow you to maintain a social distancing and provide freedom of movement around the exhibition. With the help of audio guides, you can listen to information about the exhibition in the Kazakh, Russian, English and Korean languages.
Prior to the exhibition, a master class on making a Korean traditional wedding dress "hwarot" from the paper was held, which was attended by students of the Children's Art School – the UNESCO Club of Nur-Sultan.

The exhibition "Colors of Korea: Yesterday and Today" will run until May 16, 2021.
