On September 9 this year, the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy hosted the opening of a personal exhibition of the famous painter, graphic artist, member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, publicist Nurlybayev Zhenis Kakenuly.
The author of the exhibition "Pandemic. Isolation. Take-off...", held under the auspices of the project of the Library of Elbasy "Cultural Code of Independence", represents a pleiad of creative personalities who form the cultural code of the Country of the Great Steppe recognizable in the international space.
The event was attended by representatives of foreign embassies accredited in the Republic of Kazakhstan, art gallery "Kulanshi", art gallery "Has Sanat", PF "Bayta", publishing house "Foliant", members of the Union of Artists of Nur-Sultan, teachers of the Children's Art School - UNESCO Club of Nur-Sultan, as well as students of the capital's Humanitarian College.
– The main goal of this event is to promote the art of bright representatives of national culture, the continuity of generations, despite the challenge of today's realities – the pandemic that has engulfed the world. The exhibition of the famous master Zhenis Kakenuly "Pandemic. Isolation. Takeoff..." is a reflection of the emotional experiences and inner world of the author. The works are imbued with the desire for harmony, appeal to birds – amazing creatures of living nature, and the interpenetration of a living poetic image and subtle mood changes conveyed by the amazing sound of color. Each picture from the presented series is individual, at the same time, together the artist's works make up a single spiritual and meaningful environment, noted the head of the Service for registering and storing museum valuables of the Library of Elbasy Kulyaysha Aktayeva.
– So far in my works I have been guided by the motives of history, culture and folklore of our people, but this time I have tried to reflect the inner world and the soul of the human being on the basis of the essence and values of mankind as a whole. It is a great honor for the artist that visitors of the exhibition carefully look at the works and try to understand their content. I express my sincere gratitude to the organizers and guests of this event, Zhenis Nurlybayev said.
– I was lucky enough to get acquainted with the work of Zhenis Kakenuly many years ago. Mostly I knew him as a painter, this year I had a great opportunity to know him as a graphic artist. This genre reveals a completely different side of his personality. Yes, the pandemic has affected us all, but there are no pandemics, wars and other frameworks for art. And if we trace the history and development of art, we can see that it was at times of crisis, during some social, economic or political transformations, that a kind of explosion took place in various areas of art. Zhenis Kakenuly also took advantage of this situation and changed. Of course, the artist's handwriting is felt, but we see completely different colors, the power of the flake and stroke, the artist, curator, Сhair of the Сuratorial Сouncil of the Kulanshi Center for Contemporary Art, President of the Eurasian Academy of Arts Leyla Mahat shared her impressions.
She also congratulated the author on the opening of the exhibition and said that he is included in the membership of the Eurasian Academy of Arts.

For reference: Zhenis Nurlybayev was born on May 9, 1965, in the village of Karabulak, Almaty region. Since childhood, he was fond of painting. In 1989, he graduated from the Art and Graphic Faculty of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute. He worked as an artist and art editor in the magazines "Akzhelken", "Zerde", "Madeniet", "Tura Bi". In publishing houses "Foliant", "Elorda", "Audarma" more than 40 books were printed, on the artistic design of which Zh. Nurlybayev worked. In 2006, an album dedicated to his creativity was published in the publishing house "Oner".
Zhenis Kakenuly is the author of the emblem of the Year of Cultural Support (2000), winner of the presidential scholarship in 2009 and 2010. He actively participates in international projects: artist symposiums held in Northern Cyprus and within the framework of the organization "TURKSOY", in the city of Turkestan. His city scenes, presented at the vernissage in New York, were highly appreciated.
The artist has a rare ability to combine the mastery of painting and of the language of artistic journalism. Zhenis Kakenuly is the author of the book about artists "Ak Zer "(2013, Foliant publishing house). This book contains literary essays not only about prominent artists of our country, but also about representatives of realism, hyperrealism, impressionism and world-famous marine painters. In recent years, essays have been written on the work of artists, jewelers, embroiderers. These works were published in the publications "Egemen Kazakhstan", "Ana tili".
In 2018, Zhenis Kakenuly was named in the nomination "Artist of the Year" according to the project "Zhyl Adami – 2018", conducted by the republican socio-political newspaper "Kazak uni".
