«Saints of the Undivided Church»: Exhibition of Contemporary Icon Painting
On August 5, the Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg opened a unique exhibition of contemporary Christian art «Saints of the Undivided Church», which presents icons, mosaics and miniatures dedicated to Western saints of the 2nd-11th centuries revered by both Orthodox and Catholics.
The large-scale international exhibition project «Saints of the Undivided Church», in which modern icon painters from different countries took part, was prepared by the Commonwealth in support of modern Christian culture «Artos» five years ago and since then has been successfully demonstrated not only in Russia, but also abroad.
The exhibition presents images of saints in traditional icon-painting techniques, but with a certain freedom in interpreting the image. In the Round Hall during the month, you can see more than 60 works of different styles, which will allow viewers to appreciate the whole variety of modern icon painting.

Herb garden - new landscape project
On August 5, the Yeltsin Center presented a new landscape project to Yekaterinburg - the Herb Garden. It is located on fifteen hundred square meters between the Yeltsin Center and the Drama Theater and already pleases the townspeople with its blossoming splendor.
The Yeltsin Center carefully monitors and cares for the territory adjacent to the center. They plant white and pink hydrangeas, shear shrubs and trees, take care of named benches, sift and disinfect sand in the largest sandbox in the city.
On the eve of City Day, a herb garden in the spirit of modern gardening trends appeared on the embankment near the Yeltsin Center, where citizens can enjoy blooming sage, marjoram, fleur-de-lis, mock orange, echinacea, many variations of stonecrop, wormwood, meadow grass and other herbs. Six thousand one hundred and fifty seedlings were planted in the garden, grown in the Savateevs' Nursery near Moscow, in total more than fifty species of plants.

Atwater to speak at next Eisenhower Library Evenings at Ease
The next program in the Evenings at Ease series will feature guest speaker Merrill Atwater.
Atwater is the CEO with People to People International (PTPI). The People to People Program was officially launched by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on Sept. 11, 1956. After witnessing the horrors of the Holocaust, President Eisenhower recognized the surest way to break cycles of fear and misunderstanding was for people to understand one another.
He envisioned programs such as city affiliations, pen-pals, stamp exchanges, international sporting events, musical concerts, hospitality programs, theatrical tours and book drives as the means to achieving that goal - a critical goal in the existing Cold War climate. PTPI’s Global Network ensures that immersive experiences and intentional cross-cultural education help everyday citizens become leaders who understand others and make a difference.

Carter Library closes due to high COVID numbers in Fulton County
Because of an increase in COVID-19 cases in Fulton County, the federal administration in charge of archives has closed the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.
“It is with great disappointment that I am ordering the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum closed until public health conditions improve,” said Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero, who directs the National Archives and Records Administration.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a county with a seven-day total of new cases that is greater than 99 per 100,000 in population, and with more than 9.9 percent positive results in COVID-19 testing, is classified as a “high transmission” county.
Records at the Georgia Department of Public Health show that the positivity rate in Fulton County is 12.7 percent and there were 2,823 new cases in the most recent seven-day count, or 269 per 100,000 population.
The library and museum receive about 70,000 visitors a year. They were closed due to the pandemic from March 2020 until July 2021.
Carter Library director Meredith Evans said in a statement “Like the Archivist of the United States, we are disappointed that conditions have gotten such that we need to close again.”
