BOOK COLLECTIONS OF THE LIBRARY OF ELBASSY. CONTEMPORARIES ABOUT N. NAZARBAYEV: A LETTER TO CHINA AND THE FIRST AWARD

The third chapter of the book "Bіz bіletіn Elbasy", published by the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy, is dedicated to the memories of compatriots of Nursultan Abishevich.

The Soviet and Kazakh journalist, veteran of the Great Patriotic war Usenbay Tastanbekov, who was at that time the editor of the Kaskelen district newspapers "Kommýnızm úshіn" and "Za communism", spoke about his acquaintance with young Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1958. U. Tastanbekov was assigned to answer a letter of a young teacher from China, Zhou Bai Xiao, addressed to members of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League of the Soviet Union. The Chinese teacher wanted to find comrades in the USSR.

After a long search for a translator from Chinese, the editor faced the question of a worthy Komsomol member who could answer a Chinese comrade. U. Tastanbekov was advised to contact a high school student from Kaskelen Kazakh school named after Abai, an excellent student and activist, Komsomol member Nursultan Nazarbayev, who after reading the translation of the letter, immediately agreed to write a response.

"A pleasant young man of medium height, strong built, with a smart look came to the editorial office. He spoke boldly, did not hesitate, answered our questions freely," the journalist says about his first impressions of meeting the future president of the country.

Both letters were published in Russian and Kazakh languages in the regional newspapers, led by U. Tastanbekov.

About the participation of Nursultan Nazarbayev in the circle of young naturalists of the D. Furmanov school in Chemolgan village tells Valentina Dundych – an agronomist, a breeder, a veteran of labor, who studied with the Elbassy in the same school and was a member of the circle of young naturalists.

"With the end of the school year, the summer holidays began for school children, and for young students this time meant only the end of school classes and the educational process. All summer the young naturalists worked on the school grounds. The work started in the spring and continued in the summer and autumn. A group of young naturalists was organized in the botany classroom under the guidance of a teacher. Everyone could become a member of this circle, starting from the 6th grade, but they had previously passed the selection process: young people should be hardworking and responsible for the given task. The leader of the circle made a schedule of duty for young people for the summer period, several people a week. At the end of the week, the next group came and evaluated the condition of plants on the site. ... The main evaluation criterion was the harvest. Those who distinguished themselves with good work were encouraged and rewarded. At the end of the season, the district commission participated in the assessment of the final result", says V. Dundych.

In 1957, the Commission decided to send samples of the crop grown by pupils on the school grounds of the D. Furmanov school to the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow. The exhibits sent to the exhibition won prizes, and especially distinguished young scientists were awarded. Thus, as a schoolboy Nursultan Abishevich received his first award - a medal of the participant of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow.
