Today the Library of Elbassy hosted an online roundtable "Bіz bіrgemiz" dedicated to the completion of Volunteer Year. The event was attended by Deputy Director of the Library of Elbassy Botagoz Kaipova, Head of the organization "Astana Zhastary" of Nur-Sultan Chingiz Tleulin, students of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakh State Law University, as well as volunteers.
2020 was declared Volunteer Year in Kazakhstan on the initiative of the Head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The president stressed that volunteering is a form of expression of patriotism and service to society. According to the UN, up to a billion people around the world devote their time to volunteering. The contribution of volunteering to global GDP is almost 2.5%.
Opening the roundtable, Botagoz Kaipova said: "Today, young people are the most progressive part of society and the most important resource for modernization. The First President of Kazakhstan – Elbassy N. A. Nazarbayev noted that students are a powerful resource of charity. This helps young people to quickly adapt to the labor market, contributes to their further self-realization.
Every year, volunteering becomes an indicator of the responsibility of the younger generation, the willingness to change the world for the better. In our country, the activity of volunteers is based on enthusiasm, in return, a volunteer can get a lot: experience, knowledge and skills, travel and communication, and even build a career."
Participants of the online meeting, volunteers, told about their achievements in social and educational projects and shared their experience of helping people during the coronavirus pandemic.
"For 4 years of volunteering, I was able to achieve a lot. Now I am a volunteer of the Library of Elbassy, a volunteer of the UN and UNICEF. From the moment I started my volunteer work, I realized that life was more interesting, there were many ways and opportunities for self-fulfilment," N. Tuganbekova said.
Volunteering as a global movement should be developed not only at the national level, but also in every city and village, the participants of the round table agreed. Currently, more than 200 organizations carry out volunteer activities in Kazakhstan. In addition, separate initiative groups are working in this area. In general, according to experts, more than 50 thousand people are involved in the volunteer movement of Kazakhstan.
