August 15, 2020, marked the 90th anniversary of the birth of the Kazakh People's Artist and composer, "King of the Kazakh waltz" Shamshi Kaldayakov.
The significant date was noted in Twitter by the Head of state K. Tokayev: "Today marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Shamshi Kaldayakov, the author of the national anthem "My Kazakhstan", who gave a lot of mysterious music and beautiful melodies to the spirituality of the nation. Shamshi's work is an invaluable asset of the nation. The wide promotion of his works is the responsibility of today's generation."
Shamshi Kaldayakov holds a special place in the spiritual life and musical culture of Kazakhstan. Today it is very difficult to imagine Kazakh songs without his works. His work has inspired thousands of Kazakhstanis to sing and love music. He was and remains a true national favorite.
Sh. Kaldayakov is the author of many lyrical songs that are very popular among the people: "Aq suńqarym", "Qara kóz", "Qaıyqta", "Aq bantık", "Aq mańdaılym", etc. He is the author of the music of the current national anthem of Kazakhstan. The song "My Kazakhstan" is considered the pearl of Kaldayakov's creativity. On January 11, 2006, this song sounded for the first time as the national anthem of the country in the capital's residence "Akorda" at the solemn moment of Nursultan Nazarbayev's inauguration as President of Kazakhstan.
The great composer died 28 years ago. But his life goes on in these notes. His songs are sung on a big stage and in the family circle.
On August 15, a number of events were held in honor of the 90th anniversary of Shamshi Kaldayakov. Thus, an online broadcast of the International Festival of Shamshi Songs, prepared by the Kazakh State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Kurmangazy, was held. The concert and tour center at the state concert organization "Kazakhconcert" has launched the international music challenge "Menіń Qazaqstanym", which will last until the end of this year. Famous Kazakhstan artists and actors, athletes, statesmen and public figures, compatriots from countries of near and far abroad will take part in the musical marathon. The YouTube channel of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the project "Jaz áýenderі" shows the premiere of the concert "Án padıshasy – Shámshі aǵa" of the Zhambyl Regional Philharmonic named after Kenen Azerbayev, as well as the concert "King of the Kazakh waltz" of the Kazakh State Philharmonic named after Zhambyl. On the same day, the online exhibition "King of the Kazakh waltz - Shamshi Kaldayakov", prepared by the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was opened. The Republican Library for the blind and visually impaired citizens organized a literary and musical evening "Án-aǵa" and prepared a music video lecture "90th anniversary of the birth of the People's Artist of Kazakhstan Shamshi Kaldayakov". The official pages of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan broadcast an interview with the Director, screenwriter, singer-composer Oralbek Sarbasov about the legacy of Shamshi Kaldayakov.
Events will continue after the anniversary day. On August 17, a video about the legacy of Sh. Kaldayakov will be released from the archives of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On August 26, Kaldayakov's art lovers will receive a video excursion "Unique Personality in the Kazakh History of Music," as well as a virtual exhibition "King of the Kazakh Waltz - Shamshi Kaldayakov" at the organization of the National Academic Library. On October 23, the Kurmangazy Kazakh State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments will broadcast a concert "The King of Waltz". The same month, the Kazakh State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai will present a concert of the composer's works, and in November, the Kazakh State Philharmonic named after Zhambyl will hold an anniversary concert dedicated to the composer's work. In November this year, the vocal and instrumental group "Saz & Soul" of the state concert organization "Kazakhconcert" will delight its audience with an online concert in social networks. About 100 events are planned in the Turkestan region by the end of the year, which will be held in an online format.
Also this year, in honor of the 90th anniversary of Shamshi Kaldayakov, based on the creative works of artists of Kazakhstan, a multimedia online exhibition "Shámshі álemі" will be organized for the first time, the result of which will be the release of a catalog of creative works.
In the homeland of Shamshi Kaldayakov, the restored house-museum where the composer was born and raised was opened.
