The organizers note that thanks to the tireless efforts and civic position of the First President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev the commonality of the historical memory of the peoples of Kazakhstan and Russia became an unshakable value of generations living in the era of independence and prosperity, and the exhibition "Kazakhstan Soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" reflects the highest degree of respect for the historical memory of the peoples who contributed to the Great Victory.
Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov, the Director of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy, Doctor of political science, Professor:
"Dear guests and friends!
Please accept my most sincere congratulations on the upcoming holiday - the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory!
I welcome all of You on the occasion of the opening of the virtual exhibition "Kazakhstan Soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" from the archives of the historical and memorial Museum-reserve "Battle of Stalingrad", dedicated to the significant date - the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Despite the fact that the current lockdown is making its own adjustments, this project took place thanks to cooperation with our long-standing partners: the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Together, we have prepared a virtual exhibition specifically for the Kazakhstan audience in Kazakh and Russian.
I would like to note that every year the Library of the Elbassy holds a set of events dedicated to the Victory Day. Two exhibitions were organized last year: "Blockade cello" from the collections of the St. Petersburg state museum of theater and music, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad, and an exhibition of photo-sculptures by Sergei Larenkov, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, also prepared with the support of the Russian Embassy, the Embassy of Belarus and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Kazakhstan.
The First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy Nursultan Nazarbayev always considers it his duty to preserve and relay the common historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, to care for the welfare of war veterans and home front workers. As noted by Nursultan Abishevich: "Time is moving us further away from those times. However, the keenness of understanding and the importance of this event will never weaken in the memory of our people. We know how our fathers in a brutal war went through the fire, rose to the attack from the trenches to bullets. They protected our Homeland, protected our calm, peaceful sky above our heads. They showed heroism. 500 of our countrymen were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, half of the 1.8 million people who went to the front did not return. In every family, in every person, there is still a trail of blood of that war. Therefore, we celebrate this day in order to preserve the heroism and selflessness of our ancestors, our grandfathers, and our fathers in the memory of our descendants. On the one hand, it shows that the people, united in their impulse, always win everything.".
We are deeply indebted to the heroes of that terrible war, veterans of the front and rear, we remember and honor their names and exploits.
Many representatives of our youth take care of veterans, support them in everyday life, honor them at festive events, actively participate in the work of search groups and scientific research on the topic of the Great Patriotic War, which is a true symbol of the continuity of spiritual and civil values of our people.
Kazakhstan sent about 1 million 200 thousand people to the front, as well as about 700 thousand people to the construction battalions of the labor army. In addition, about 178 thousand people at the beginning of the war were serving in personnel units of the Soviet Armed Forces. In total, 12 rifle divisions, 7 rifle brigades, 4 cavalry divisions and more than 50 regiments and battalions of various types of the armed forces and branches of the armed forces were created in the Republic. Almost 700,000 Kazakhs died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Every year, scientists find new information about the fallen on the war fronts in the archives and when the remains of heroes are found.
The Stalingrad forces comprised 320 formations and more than 250 units of the Soviet Army, including the Kazakhstan formations - 5 rifle and cavalry divisions, the rifle brigade, the mortar regiment and the mechanized motor engineering battalion.
For their feats in the battle to encircle and destroy the enemy's Stalingrad group, four Kazakhstanis were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. On November 26, 1942, the mortar man of the horse-artillery division of the 61st cavalry division Karsybay Spataev in the battle near the farm Shartunovsky (south of Stalingrad) continued to fight, left alone. He blew up an enemy tank at the cost of his own life. The pilot, Sergeant Nurken Abdirov of the 808th Assault Air Force destroyed several tanks and more than 200 vehicles in 16 combat missions. On 19 December, 1942, during an attack on enemy positions near the Konkov village of the Bokovsky district of the Rostov region, his aircraft was set on fire by enemy anti-aircraft gunners. N. Abdirov directed the plane to the column of enemy tanks. The commander of the 17th Guards Tank Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Timofei Pozolotin, on December 19-22, 1942, raided the enemy’s rear in the area of the Krasnaya Zarya state farm, the Nizhnejablonevsky and Khlebinsky farms, destroying several thousand invaders and capturing up to 500 prisoners. Lieutenant Gayaz Ramaev commanded a reconnaissance platoon of the 128th infantry regiment of the 29th infantry division. On January 16, 1943, in the village of Peschanka he together with his fighters destroyed dozens and captured about 60 fascists, and ten days later in the village of Verkhnyaya Elshanka he captured 4 guns. He died in this fight.
This year, in connection with the current situation in the world, we offer you the exhibition "Kazakhstan soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" in electronic format. Thanks to the work of our colleagues from the "Battle of Stalingrad" Museum-reserve, we can also tell about other heroes-Kazakhstanis who took part in this great battle, which turned the tide of the entire Great Patriotic War. I am sure that the exhibition materials will be of interest to a wide audience.
I wish everyone a good impression of the virtual exhibition!
Congratulations on the Great Victory Day!"
The exhibition materials show visitors the history of one of the bloodiest battles, not only the Great Patriotic War, but also the entire Second World War, which lasted from July 17, 1942, to February 2, 1943. The victory in the great battle made it possible to achieve a fundamental breakthrough during the Great Patriotic War. In the battle of Stalingrad, about 500 thousand people died, valiantly fighting for their homeland. Among them were representatives of the entire multi-ethnic people of the Soviet Union, including Kazakhstanis. The unique archival materials meticulously collected by the employees of the Battle of Stalingrad Museum-reserve tell about the heroes of the battle, allow you to get to know them closer, and again be amazed at the scale of the personalities.
Alexey Borodavkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan:
"Dear friends!
The exhibition "Kazakhstan soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" is vivid evidence of the importance and versatility of Russian - Kazakhstan cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, which directly involves cultural institutions of our countries. The intense, coordinated work of employees of the Museum-reserve "Battle of Stalingrad", the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy and Representative Offices of Rossotrudnichestvo in Kazakhstan, gave a very important result: a unique exposition was created, based on real documents and testimonies of the participants of the battle, which became a turning point during the Second World War, in the history of all mankind.
The exhibition for the first time presents materials that tell about the courage and heroism of Kazakhstan soldiers, their participation in the defeat of the Nazi hordes near Stalingrad.
The battle of Stalingrad, which lasted 200 days and nights and covered an area of 100 thousand square kilometers, became one of the largest in the history of mankind. Such words as "Mamayev Kurgan", "Pavlov's House" forever became a symbol of courage and perseverance, and the word "Stalingrad" became a synonym for the word "Victory".
February 2 - the day of the defeat of the Soviet troops of the German-fascist armies in the battle of Stalingrad - is today the Day of military glory of Russia. Hitler, on that day, declared mourning throughout the Third Reich, because Germany and its satellites lost about 1.2 million people killed and wounded near Stalingrad, 300 thousand soldiers and officers led by Field Marshal Paulus surrendered.
The 9 divisions that participated in the battle of Stalingrad, formed in Kazakhstan, were constantly at the forefront of the battle. In memory of their feat two years ago, a monument was solemnly unveiled in Volgograd, inside which is stored a capsule with soil collected at memorials of the Red Army fighters from different regions of Kazakhstan.
Almost 1.5 million Kazakhstanis fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Formed here 12 rifle and 4 cavalry divisions, 7 brigades and 50 regiments heroically defended Moscow, Stalingrad and Leningrad, participated in fierce battles in the Caucasus, near Rzhev, in the Crimea, liberated Europe, stormed Berlin.
We are deeply grateful that hospitable Kazakhstan sheltered, fed and warmed thousands of evacuated families from the areas of the USSR directly affected by the war. And how many Kazakhstanis, sparing no effort, worked in the rear under the slogan "Everything for the front, everything for victory!"
Today, Kazakhstan is preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. Our exhibition is dedicated to this glorious date.
Dear friends!
I would like to express my gratitude to the management and wonderful staff of the world-famous Museum-reserve "Battle of Stalingrad". Their work deserves the highest praise: how much painstaking work and creative dedication they put into this project! I am sure that the exhibition "Kazakh Soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" will strengthen friendly and allied relations between our states and help us recall the heroic pages of our common past. It is also important that such projects give us the opportunity to jointly resist the shameful attempts to falsify our glorious history and belittle the role of the Red Army in the defeat of Nazi Germany and its satellites.
The exhibition "Kazakh Soldiers in the battle for Stalingrad" will be virtual at first. But I am sure that very soon the residents of Nur-Sultan and guests of the capital of Kazakhstan will be able to walk through the halls of the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy and get acquainted with the materials of the exhibition in detail.
Happy Victory Day to you, dear friends! Glory to the victorious peoples! The eternal memory of the fallen on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War for the sake of our future! Long live the eternal friendship of Russia and Kazakhstan!"
