ANNOUNCEMENT. VIDEO TOUR ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST NUCLEAR TESTS

On August 27, 2020, a video tour dedicated to the International Day against Nuclear Tests will be featured on the website of the Library of Elbassy.

10 years ago, on August 29, 2010, the world celebrated for the first time the International Day against Nuclear Tests, which was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. It calls for raising awareness "of the consequences of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions and the need to stop them as a means to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world". This resolution was initiated by Kazakhstan in honor of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site on August 29, 1991. Since the establishment of the International Day against Nuclear Tests in May 2010, all states parties to the Treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons have committed themselves to "achieve peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons".

The materials of the video tour prepared by the Library of Elbassy introduce the history of the struggle to stop nuclear explosions on the Kazakhstan land, which was crowned with success thanks to the bold decisions of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy N. Nazarbayev.

Spectators can get acquainted with the exhibition "Nursultan Nazarbayev - the leader of the global anti-nuclear movement", unique archival documents, photos and videos, publications, museum exhibits and books from the Library of the Elbassy, reflecting the global approach of the Republic of Kazakhstan, its First President to the issues of ensuring global security, based on renunciation of nuclear weapons and nuclear testing.

The tireless initiatives of Elbassy as a global leader in the field of nuclear non-proliferation have defined the strategy for the development of a world order free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. The international awards of N. Nazarbayev for their contribution to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation attest to this.
